Roule Galette

Braving the ominous overtones of it being Friday the 13th - not a black cat or ladder in sight, thankfully - our little team spent this morning venturing slightly wider afield than St Kilda Road.

Admittedly, not sticking to our "theme" of "St Kilda Road Eateries" in only our second post may not be a good sign, but we do frequently venture into the city for treats so it's only fair to keep you in the loop on our opinions on those places too.

Today's treat was in the shape of Roule Galette and what a treat it was!

Our little team nearly packed out the whole cafe, it's a tiny little place filled with many cute treasures from Brittany and a gorgeous little children's book called Roule Galette - not every place can boast having a storybook of their own!

Being fairly early in the day most of us opted for savoury galettes - Cathy and Tom were the exceptions with a lemon and sugar crepe and a Normandy Flambee, the latter taking several tries to set alight, but it was a spectacular and delicious-smelling display when it eventually did catch on!

For myself, I was very boring and went for the ham and cheese galette, which was a perfect rainy day brunch choice, although maybe a little too much ham for my taste (but easily enough fixed with a little of my traditional food dissection).

Others opted for the Complete (ham, cheese and egg) and (not even on a dare!) Paul selected the escargot... very brave for that early in the day if you ask me, but he seemed very happy with his choice! I liked the inclusion of lettuce, presumably to give the snails something to nibble on (don't get me started on lettuce - I may be the only person on the planet who doesn't like it!).

We stayed for about an hour enjoying the atmosphere, sharing travel stories and discussing the origins of Facebook and how "liking" works and we certainly weren't pushed to hurry along.

Overall, I couldn't fault our food, the service or the venue and judging by the faces of my fellow travellers, I like to think they agree.
